Job Summary

St. Felix House is a transitional housing program for women who require safe, stable and affordable.  Housing in order to move forward with their lives. Residents of the house are put into contact with all necessary social supports in order to facilitate their transition plans. The role of the Follow-Up Case Worker is a key element of the transition process as they will be responsible for supporting clients during and following their move-out from the transitional housing program. A focus on building community and social supports, as well as modeling and sharing eviction prevention tools will be integral to the success of this position.

Job Duties

  • Adherence to St. Felix Centre core values, anti-discrimination policy, and code of ethics

  • Providing case management support to residents who have graduated from transitional housing for up to one year
  • Assisting with housing searches for current residents, as well as other clients in the event that they require rehousing
  • Practicing eviction prevention with clients to ensure housing security including modeling strong tenant behaviour, liaising with landlords, and informal counseling
  • Referring clients to community agencies/activities to ensure strong social and community resources are available to newly housed clients
  • Creating and implementing safety plans for clients that require additional support or are identified as being at-risk (of relapsing, losing housing, exercising poor judgment, etc)
  • Administrative duties as needed including but not limited to up-to-date case notes, incident reports, and documentation of all interactions with clients
  • Liaising with OW/ODSP as necessary for clients and assisting with budgeting for newly housed residents
  • Ensuring the smooth and timely transfer of rent to landlords on a monthly basis
  • Assisting the Transitional Housing Case Worker (Internal) with housing support for residents nearing the end of their occupancy
  • Supervising volunteers and student placements as necessary
  • Other duties as deemed appropriate and in consultation with Manager, Transitional Housing and/or senior management at St. Felix Centre.

Job Requirements

  • The Transitional Housing Caseworker will need to have a friendly, sociable, non-judgmental, patient and caring manner as well as good verbal communication and listening skills.
  • Social work education (BSW) is strongly preferred.
  • Candidates should have at minimum two years of casework experience, and
  • Candidates with a valid Class G driver’s license will be given preference.

Compensation -    $19/hr

Work Schedule -    37.5 hours per week; schedule will include at least two weekend shifts per month to be agreed upon with immediate supervisor.
