Green Spaces programme

Job terms: Full-time Temporary (30 – 37.5 hours per week, 8-16 weeks)

Green Spaces is one of UNA-Canada’s innovative work-integrated learning programmes designed to provide talented students (aged 15-30) with work placement opportunities that will ignite Canada’s Green Economy.  Green Spaces participants will undertake 8 to 16-week placements with various companies, governments, associations, universities and civil society organizations across Canada. 

Green Spaces participants will be provided with the opportunity to lead initiatives, apply their world-class academic training to challenging issues, and share their passion for environmental sustainability.  The Green Spaces programme aims to place talented students in placements within Canada’s green economy, with the primary goals of:

  • Gain valuable work experience and develop new professional skills;
  • Build your network with like-minded professionals from diverse professional and academic backgrounds;
  • Develop a more nuanced understanding of issues related to environmental sustainability, natural resource development and management, and green growth opportunities in a Canadian and international context; and
  • Obtain professional development support such as resume and cover letter review

 

Eligibility

To be part of the Green Spaces programme, you must be:

  • Currently enrolled in school, and returning back to school at the end of the placement;
  • Between the ages of 15 and 30 (inclusive) at the time of intake/selection;
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons who have been granted refugee status in Canada;
  • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and
  • Not be in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits at the time of the placement (*Please note that the cancellation of EI benefits may cause some delay in the hiring process)

 

Eligible partner organisations include:

  • Not-for-profit organisations;
  • Municipal governments;
  • Provincial and territorial governments, institutions, agencies and Crown Corporations;
  • Aboriginal organisations (including band councils, tribal councils and self-government entities);
  • For-profit organisations; and
  • Post-secondary institutions or research labs
