Description: We are seeking an energetic, self-directed, and flexible individual with a strong knowledge and background in social work, social policy and/or communications to join a small team. While the successful applicant will have concrete responsibilities, they will also have the opportunity to allow their strengths and interest shape activities to some extent. In a small office environment, the applicant must be ready to share tasks and adapt to arising challenges.

Term of Employment: November 1, 2019 – April 1, 2021

About the employer: The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) is the national professional association for social workers in Canada, with a dual mandate to promote and support the profession, as well as advocate, on the federal level, for the advancement of social justice and progressive social policy.

Key responsibilities:

  • Support the Executive Director in CASW operations
  • Drafting press releases, blog posts, and social media content and /or strategy
  • Policy research and writing
  • Project managing CASW’s yearly magazine (sourcing and creating content, assisting in layout decisions, and guaranteeing timely publication)
  • Project managing CASW’s yearly national Social Work Month campaign
  • Identifying and organizing continuing education content for social workers in Canada
  • Working with internal stakeholders on policy and/or communications projects
  • Help plan and execute meetings


  • MSW, OR Master’s level education and combination of relevant experience [if MSW, must be a member in good standing of appropriate regulatory body]
  • Demonstrated knowledge of social work in Canada
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with social justice, advocacy, and federal issues that impact the well-being of those who live in Canada
  • Familiarity with many different writing modalities (research papers, blogs, social media posts, magazine articles, etc)
  • Strong familiarity with the federal policy development process
