Temporary Position – Internal/External
Description: The Assembly of First Nations is seeking a dynamic and creative individual to prepare and write speeches for the National Chief. The successful candidate will partner with the Assembly of First Nation’s media team to develop a persuasive and effective communications strategy on behalf of the National Chief’s Office.
Who Can Apply: Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference as per (s. 16(1) CHRA).
Applicants should possess a post -secondary degree in Public Relations, Communications or Journalism. Equivalent combinations of education, training and experience will be considered.
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working as a speechwriter, media relations officer, communications officer or public relations officer is required. Experience working with media and in the political environment would be a strong asset. Journalism experience is also an asset.
The successful candidate will have superior verbal and written communications skills, be a strategic thinker and in tune with First Nation and political issues, and will have a good understanding of Canadian, international and Indigenous media and social media. He /She must have demonstrated initiative and a willingness to be a team player, be extremely reliable, and able to work independently and under pressure. He/she must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to maintain a high degree of tact and discretion.
English is the working language although the ability to communicate effectively in French would also be an asset.
Salary: Commensurate with experience and education (with limits of the salary grid).
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Duration: This is a temporary position ending on March 31, 2020. Extension will be based on funding.
