BILINGUAL COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER

 

Job Title:                     Communications, Public and Government Relations Manager

Reports to:                  Executive Director

Location:                     Ottawa

 

Job Summary:  

 

The Communications, Public and Government Relations Manager will be responsible for developing the strategy to promote CPF and our initiatives, helping to inform members and parents about the various opportunities available to support youth learning French as a second language (FSL) and to influence key decision makers in both education and official languages on the importance of access to FSL learning opportunities.

 

The Manager is responsible for guiding and developing content for internal and external communications through our various online and print communication platforms. He /she guides communications for our events and media relations and marketing our products and services delivered via our Network across Canada.

 

Employment Conditions:  

This is a full-time, 1-year contract position with annual opportunities for renewal. Hours will be Monday to Friday, typically 8:30 to 4:30 with plenty of flexibility in terms of start and finish times. There will be some weekends and travel involved in this position.  In addition to a starting salary between $56,000 – $72,000 per year (commensurate with experience and qualifications), you’ll receive an excellent benefits package, eligibility for 3-weeks’ vacation after the completion of a three-month probationary period.

 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both French and English. Bilingualism is essential.
  • 3-5 years’ work experience in a communication / public relations / government relations position.
  • University degree or postgraduate college certificate/diploma in a relevant field (communications, marketing, journalism, media relations); or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in the volunteer/not-for-profit sector is considered an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal and public relations skills, adaptable and able to lead and work well within a team; experience connecting and networking with partner groups.
  • Motivated with a track record of taking initiative; autonomy, flexibility, and decision-making ability.
  • Experience coordinating content for member newsletter and magazine for publication: experience managing organizational/company social media accounts and websites.
  • Strong writing and story telling skills, attention to detail, editing, proofreading, and reviewing translations; Clear, catchy persuasive, attention grabbing writer with the ability to pull out key stories to share and make an impact with funders, donors and supporters.
  • Strong technology skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Publisher) and Web-based applications (WordPress, GoToMeeting) is a requirement.
  • Familiarity with graphic design programs (Adobe Illustrator/InDesign) is an asset.

 

Additional Criteria:

  • Candidates must legally be entitled to work in Canada.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends as required.
  • Knowledge and experience in writing blogs, producing infographs, creating podcasts is an asset.
  • Experience planning and executing communications pre-, during, and post-
  • Experience in member and volunteer driven organizations are strong assets.
  • The position will require occasional travel.
