JOB POSTING - SOCIAL WORKER (CHILD SPECIFIC RECRUITER)

WHO WE ARE

At the Adoptive Families Association of BC, we believe that children grow best in families. Our Child Specific Recruitment program finds loving, permanent homes for some of the hardest-to-place children and youth in government care in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. We explore family connections, work in collaboration with government agencies, and help children and youth understand the importance of adoption and permanency. This program is based on the Wendy’s Wonderful Kids (WWK) program of the Dave Thomas Foundation of Canada.

THE RIGHT CANDIDATE

  • Are you a skilled and experienced social worker with a passion for permanence?
  • Do you want to be instrumental in changing the lives of children with government care experience?
  • Are you detail oriented, and a creative solution finder? If so, we want to hear from you!

YOUR ROLE (35 HOURS/WEEK, BASED IN BURNABY)

As a member of the Child Specific Recruitment team, you’ll enhance our program by:

  • Working directly with a caseload of 15 – 20 children and youth
  • Employing permanency strategies such as data mining, family finding and life book creation, as well as writing reports and tracking progress
  • Educating prospective families about the dynamics and procedures of adoption and permanency options
  • Liaising with adoption groups, agencies, and Indigenous communities to recruit families
  • Working collaboratively with social workers, stakeholders, partners and internal staff

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Degree in Social Work (MSW/BSW) or Child and Youth Care (BACYC)
  • Experience working in the child welfare and/or family services sector
  • 2-3 years social work experience related to adoption and/or other forms of permanency or equivalent mix of training and/or experience
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • An organized, detail-oriented approach to managing and prioritizing multiple cases and relationships
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion, sensitivity, and maturity
  • The ability to travel throughout the Lower Mainland, with a valid BC Driver’s License
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (some evening and weekends)
  • Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector) and current First Aid, or willingness to obtain both
