COPY EDITOR/COPYWRITER (Communications Department at the National Ministry Centre)



To faithfully serve the Alliance family as we seek to be Christ-centred, Spirit-empowered and Mission-focused.



To ensure the grammatical soundness and stylistic consistency of written communications, to communicate the vision, culture and message of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada.



Reports directly to: Directors of Communications Works closely with the following:

  • Internal contacts: Directors of Communications, President, Communications Staff, Churches, Official Workers, National Ministry Centre Staff, District Staff
  • External contacts: Consultants and Supplier




General Communications Department Assistance

  • Completes tasks as assigned by Communications Directors
  • Maintains understanding of current trends in language (ex. offensive/sensitive language), linguistics, grammar (ex. receiving Canadian Press newsletters)
  • Purchases subscriptions (online, print) relevant to grammatical, form guidelines referred to in The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada Style Guide (ex. Canadian Oxford Dictionary, Canadian Press Style guides, )
  • Works with the Communications team to generate new, innovation ideas and ways to implement them, bringing ideas to the team on an ongoing basis
  • Responds to inquiries by letter, email and telephone within two business days

Style Guide

  • Revises The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada Style Guide, monthly
  • Ensures the implementation of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada Style Guide among any publications that bear the C&MA name/logo (ex. church, district websites, mission guides, Justice and Compassion catalogues, )
  • Informs National Ministry Centre team of any changes to The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada Style Guide
  • Makes the most recent version of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada Style Guide available on the network (U-Driv

Communications Advisor

  • Serves as Communications advisor to district offices, churches and workers


  • Copyedits Magazine, annually
  • Copyedits brochures, name cards, websites for International Workers
  • Copyedits website stories
  • Copyedits Facebook stories
  • Copyedits blog entries
  • Copyedits Global Update, weekly
  • Copyedits Momentum, monthly
  • Copyedits Praise and Prayer, monthly
  • Copyedits print materials such as brochures, displays, posters,
  • Copyedits mass emails, as needed
  • Copyedits emails, communications sent by other departments


  • Writes web stories, as assigned
  • Writes magazine stories, as assigned

National Ministry Centre Support

  • Relieves National Ministry Centre reception as required



This position will provide the right candidate an opportunity to become directly involved in all areas of the ministry that require hands-on writing and editing for all written communication throughout the organization (i.e. brochures, websites, Facebook, blogs and all other communications).

The Copy Editor/Copywriter must be a self-starter and a creative thinker experienced in copyediting, having implemented linguistic and stylistic standards, and in writing a variety of creative and professional works. The ideal candidate will be expertly versed in the English language and in standards of concision, coherence and clarity.

This person will possess not only excellent technical skills, but also effective interpersonal skills, as he or she will work in a team, collaborate, share ideas and connect with individuals for interviews and information. This position will build and maintain cooperative relationships with all offices, churches and individuals related to the organization. This person will provide advice and support regarding copyediting and copywriting in an invitational, efficient and empowering way. The ideal candidate will be able to focus on multiple tasks with varied timelines, from long-term timelines with multiple phases to urgent deadlines that call for prompt turn-around.

This person must possess initiative to implement a Style Guide that meets the specific needs of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada (the C&MA) and that is easy to access and use. Initiative will also be required to generate ideas for stories to be published in and across multiple publications. All written communications must represent the President’s vision and achieve the goals set by him; all written communication will magnify the message of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada and encourage people to participate in it.

  • Fluent in English

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in English, Linguistics, Writing or related field



  • Relevant experience working as copyeditor or writer
  • Experience preparing /reviewing written correspondence (i.e. letters, memos, emails, blogs, reports, magazines, )
  • Experience in a non-profit or charitable organization, an asset
