Position Summary

The Marketing & Communications Specialist is responsible for all day-to-day implementation of marketing and communications related initiatives of the Canadian Helen Keller Centre (CHKC). The incumbent in this role maintains and enhances the agency’s online presence including but not limited to social media, website, portals and digital fundraising platforms. The Marketing & Communications Specialist is also responsible for the execution of fundraising and special events related initiatives. This role plays a key role in ensuring a consistent representation of CHKC values and in delivering various marketing-related projects within a timeline and budget. The Marketing & Communications Specialist stays abreast of industry trends and ensures that all content created is unique, accurate, and current.

 

Position Responsibilities

Strategy and Planning

  • Develops and implements the organizational brand strategy to ensure the development of a successful brand that supports CHKC objectives.
  • Writes, edits and/or directs the development of content and messaging to support organizational communications related to government and stakeholder relations.
  • Leads government relations strategy and implementation by building and nurturing strong relationships with federal and provincial government representatives.
  • Advises Leadership team and staff on issues and opportunities related to marketing and communications strategies/plans.
  • Provides input, develops, and implements marketing communications strategies that support the achievement of the overall marketing plan.
  • Supports all marketing communications channels including presentations, e-communications and website maintenance.
  • Oversees the progress and implementation of marketing communications campaigns and initiatives.
  • Tracks and monitors market research trends, ensuring alignment of CHKC’s strategy to significant trends in the industry.
  • Monitors effectiveness of organizational marketing and communication strategies using a variety of marketing metrics, providing recommendations accordingly.

 

Marketing and Promotion

  • Acts as key contact for stakeholders and donors.
  • Composes grant proposals and actively seeks out additional relevant funding opportunities.
  • Develops and deploys CHKC fundraising and special events related initiatives.
  • Uses social media platforms as a means for marketing including Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Fundraising platforms, etc.
  • Project manages company-wide activities related to marketing & communication projects.
  • Ensures a consistent articulation of the CHKC brand strategy throughout all communication, both within and external to the organization, ensuring branding guidelines are upheld.
  • Develops and distributes communication materials, including website content, photography of services and events, and various marketing collateral (brochures, report, letters, catalogues, articles, e-communications, graphic visual promotions).
  • Upholds social media presence for CHKC by providing relevant and timely updates on all social media channels.

 

Marketing Administration

  • Monitors program budget(s) and ensures marketing & communications programs operate within the funding parameters.
  • Responsible for coordinating, designing, and distributing various marketing material, communications and publications within predetermined timelines.
  • Develops, writes, edits and/or directs the development of communications content for public relations, social media, marketing and corporate communications materials, and messaging to support other organizational communications.

 

Managing Third Parties

  • Liaises with advertising and design agencies to ensure the execution and delivery of agreed-upon marketing communication assets.
  • Builds successful relationships with day-to-day contact at third party agencies.
  • Handles the payment to external vendors and other parties as related to marketing and communications projects.

 

Agency-Wide Expectations:

  • Promotes and demonstrates the purpose and mission of CHKC within the workplace by having a positive and professional relationship with consumers and staff.
  • Serves as a role model to others by demonstrating a respectful and positive attitude toward individuals with disabilities.
  • Completes all agency required training.
  • Researches professional development opportunities and recommend same to the Executive Director.
  • Participates in relevant projects, working groups and committees with the prior approval of the Executive Director.
  • Ensures consistent implementation and adherence to approved CHKC policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the orientation of new employees.
  • Supports a positive, healthy and safe workplace.
  • When necessary, reports relevant information to the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
  • Supports and implements recommendations made by the JHSC.
  • Keeps current with Health & Safety legislation.

Qualifications & Skills

  • College or University degree in Business, Communication, Marketing or related program strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the operation of not-for-profit organizations, as well as understanding of government and corporate sectors an asset.
  • Minimum 2 years of professional marketing experience, preferably in the non-for-profit sector.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suites Software (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to interpret research from academic and government sources and translate into clear communications.
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to build solid, effective working relationships with others.
  • Extensive knowledge of communication methodologies, techniques and tools.
  • Proven project management and time management skills.
  • Ability to balance work and adhere to deadlines while working on numerous projects.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
