Eden Food for Change (EFFC) has been serving western Mississauga for 30 years. The organization provides people with emergency food support through its two Food Bank locations.  Our Learning Kitchen puts healthy food on the tables of its Food Bank Members as well as of its Meals on Wheels program clients. EFFC’s Fresh Produce Box program allows everyone to access affordable fruits and vegetables. 

EFFC is committed to increasing access to good food in a dignified manner, developing food skills to encourage healthy eating and empowering the community through education, outreach and advocacy. EFFC is a Good Food Organization affiliated with Community Food Centres Canada.

Summary of Position

The EFFC Food Bank Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of Food Bank programs to ensure both effective deliveries of food and services to clients as well as supporting other food initiatives throughout the organization. In addition, the Food Bank Manager supports the Executive Director in the areas of fundraising, outreach, community awareness.

Hours: 35 hours per week. Schedules vary by Food Bank site. Monday and Friday 8am – 1pm; Tuesday and Thursday 12pm – 8pm; Wednesday 9am – 5pm. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Reporting Relationships

The Food Bank Manager position reports to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Manage day to day operations of Food Access programs, including supervising Food Bank shifts, supervising volunteers and students, and ensuring that Food Bank Members receive appropriate quality and quantity of food in a respectful and dignified manner
  • Ensure understanding of social constructs resulting in Food Bank usage to properly support Food Bank Members
  • Ensure the ability to discuss and advocate for the Food Bank and its Members in a multitude of environments (fundraising events, tours, within TMFB network, etc.)
  • Address complex issues of advocacy concerning Food Bank Members (eg. mental health breaks, challenging Members, Children’s Aid)
  • Establish and support guidelines and frameworks for Food Bank usage and advocacy (advocacy framework, advocacy meetings, Member guidelines, translations of all documents into other languages, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with external agencies to design and deliver one-time and ongoing programs for Food Bank Member
  • Support the Executive Director in areas of fundraising and community engagement

Qualifications

  • Social Services degree or related experience
  • Experience supervising volunteers or working with a non-profit organization
  • Proficient computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and cultivate relationships with clients, volunteers, Members, donors and staff 
  • Knowledge of non-profit programming; interest in hunger issues or related social services
  • High level of analytical, data interpretation, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using a foodbank software system Link 2 Feed or similar system an asset

Other Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license with access to reliable vehicle
  • Proof of personal automobile liability insurance
  • Must provide a satisfactory vulnerable population Peel Police record check
