Position Summary

Under the direction Senior Administrator, the incumbent assumes the responsibility to provide education support for the staff of the assigned LTC Homes(s); plan, coordinate and implement staff development plan and develop educational resources supporting all training and education needs.

Main Duties

  • Support the management team to develop, coordinate and conduct general orientation program and annual staff retraining for all staff of the organization.
  • Coordinate and conduct ongoing in-service education to meet staff educational needs in collaboration with management team to support staff upgrade of knowledge and/or acquire new skills in general and specific care specialties, current gerontology and health care practices.
  • Identify, liaise and coordinate with external resources for the provision of appropriate education and training for staff.
  • Conduct educational needs assessment through staff survey and feedback to identify learning needs of the staff and devise annual staff training plan.
  • Work with management team to plan and provide education, coaching to direct care staff on floors; assist in monitoring and auditing service standards, ensuring safety and quality services are provided to residents.
  • Support direct care staff, registered staff, managers and attending physicians in using the clinical software and data to meet the needs of our residents.
  • Provide RAI-MDS back up as required.
  • Conduct audits, educate staff on all quality improvement and risk management processes in coordination with the management team.
  • Research new learning modules and best practices through linkages with professional resources, colleges and universities such as e.g. RNAO, Public Health, Regional Geriatric Programs of Ontario, PIDAC etc.      
  • Explore appropriate venues and resources for access to current theoretical knowledge and practical upgrading of skills for staff.
  • Coordinate workplace inspection, fire drills and emergency drills with the management team etc.
  • Any other duties as assigned from time to time.

Qualifications

  • Related Health Care disciplines (e.g RN, RPN, RD, Social Worker etc.) or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years’ of independent working experience in providing staff education and training in a non-profit organization, long term care home or hospital.
  • Completion of relevant educator/trainer certificate is an asset.
  • Experience in support RAI-MDS roles in the LTCH is an asset.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Familiar with the staff education curriculum as required by LTCH’s Act.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently handle multiple tasks with deadlines.
  • Focused on providing exceptional support to management team and staff with positive attitude and friendly disposition to meet the mission, goals and objectives of our homes’ operations.
  • Ability and willingness to contribute effectively in a team environment.
  • Fluency in English and Chinese.
