The Playcare Program is a licensed JK/SK -School Aged Day Care that operates as part of the Boys and Girls Club and offers a safe, supportive environment where children experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships and develop confidence and skills for life.

The Playcare staff assists in planning, implementing and delivering services and programs for participants between the ages of four to twelve.  Ensures that all work is carried out according to the Childcare Act and within the context of the agency’s Mission Statement, board approved policies and organizational practices.


  • Plans, organizes and implements weekly programs for children aged 4-12
  • Assists in program related administrative duties (attendance, calendar, menu etc.)
  • Assists with program specific special events and fundraising initiatives
  • Escorts children to and/or from school (Centre)
  • Supervises volunteers and/or placement students while in program
  • Ensures safety and well-being of the program participants at all times
  • Attends staff meetings, trainings as required
  • Communicates and provides support to participants’ parents/caregivers
  • Ensures that all incidents/accidents are reported and required documentation forwarded immediately to the supervisor
  • Participates in and supports agency-wide special events and fundraising initiatives
  • Ensures an approach that displays a positive attitude, sensitivity and understanding  towards people of all abilities, backgrounds and orientation
  • Carries out other duties as assigned


Monday – Friday: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. & 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (school days) and Monday –Friday:  7:00 a.m. –  3:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on non-instructional days,1-2 week-ends per year (Special Events)


Registered Early Childhood Educator, Valid First Aid CPR.


  • Good spoken English. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, long/short correspondence.
  • Able to efficiently and effectively plan and problem solve
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Flexibility, creativity and positive energy required.


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
