The Gender Technical Specialist plays an important role in providing guidance to World Vision Canada (WVC) sectoral programming in Gender for three grant and major donor funded projects. The focus of the position is to establish Gender sectoral standards for program quality, strengthen monitoring and evaluation, technical support for project implementation including gender capacity assessment and training for project staff and partners and supporting gender mainstreaming in all the project activities. The Gender Technical Specialist will also support the robust monitoring of gender responsiveness of the projects implementation and ensuring the reporting to the donor meets desired expectations.

Job Description

  • Technical Oversight: Ensure the three projects supported are aligned with World Vision International (WVI) global sectoral strategies and technical standards as well as global best practices contributing to improved child wellbeing.
  • Capacity Building: Strengthen the capacity of project staff for the three grants in gender through training, coaching and mentoring to support quality programing leading to measurable impact.
  • Thought Leadership: Enhance the credibility of WVC’s sectoral expertise in Gender through developing and presenting project learnings from the three projects in internal and external learning forums and maintenance and/or establishment of strategic partnerships and alliances for external representation of the projects results and experience and supporting WVC leadership engagement in the gender sphere.
  • Resource Development: Expand the scope and diversity of WVC’s resource base in gender through leveraging on learning and innovations from project implementation for resource acquisition and donor engagement in gender.


  • A Master’s degree in Gender studies with at least 5 years international experience in gender programming, or an undergraduate degree in gender and professional designation in gender with at least 7 years international experience in gender programming.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in the design, implementation and management of grant funded development projects with gender as a main focus.
  • Over 5 years’ experience in Gender Policy work, Capacity Development, Research and Evaluation, and Cross- sectoral Partnerships
  • Demonstrated experience in gender program documentation, program monitoring, donor report writing, networking, and partner development for resource acquisition.
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional and remote teams for the purpose of program implementation, development of technical standards, and resource acquisition
  • Availability for international and domestic travel 2 -3 times per year as needed
