The Position

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President – Development (Major Gifts/Gifts & Estate Planning) and supporting the major gift activity of all Foundation development staff, the Development Manager plays a key role in the delivery of the department’s success by ensuring optimum individual and team performance within all fundraising programs including: planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation; budgeting and financial management, and donor engagement and communications. This individual will also support the Associate Vice President and Foundation in dealing with special projects for donors considering gifts of significance ($25,000+).

Primary responsibilities of the Development Manager include:  

  • Participating directly in annual strategic planning, creating reports to provide an overall evaluation of the MG/GEP program and fundraising activities
  • Assuming responsibility for annual operating plans for all fundraising systems, programs and campaigns within the portfolio
  • Preparing a critical path and implementation plan for many of the fundraising activities within the MG/GEP portfolio
  • Ensuring that the focus and integrity of the Foundation are maintained and resources deployed where appropriate, by participating in planning and evaluation of programs, campaigns, and projects
  • Assisting in the development of a budget for all major gifts activities including the administration of the Major Gifts annual budget
  • Overseeing Prospect Identification and Assignment activity, supervising the Foundation’s Research Analyst with respect to collection, dissemination, and communication of information
  • Ensuring ongoing credibility of the Foundation by preparing and submitting timely reports to the supervisor or designate on fundraising systems, programs, and activities
  • Creating reports and monitoring progress of the program to ensure that prospects are moving through the donor pipeline
  • Assisting in the evaluation of both individual and team fundraising activities for which the portfolio is directly responsible, as well as identifying areas of future potential
  • Supervising the Major Gifts Development Coordinator and providing overarching Foundation direction and guidance for the Foundation’s Development Coordinators
  • Ensuring a strong link is maintained between the Foundation and Regional Centre staff

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of sophisticated fundraising software programs, preferably Raiser’s Edge
  • Computer skills: demonstrated competence in computer software such as Microsoft Office Suite Raiser’s Edge, RE NXT and invoice and expense claim processing in our document management software (PaperSave)


The ideal candidate will possess a degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field, preferably with a focus on fundraising or non-profit management, plus at least five years of related experience, preferably with a fundraising organization of similar scope, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Additional formal training in financial (e.g. CMA-CPA) or project management is an asset.
