Our Place Peel provides emergency shelter, transitional housing and programs to homeless youth ages 16-21 in the Region of Peel.

Position Description

The Youth Residential Manager is responsible for the overall management and operations of the Our Place Peel residential facility that includes the Emergency Youth Shelter, Resource Room and Transitional program.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of a 14 bed emergency shelter and 6 bed transitional program and liaises between the staff and leadership team.
  • Supervises staff by providing direction, input and feedback, provides performance appraisals, determines training needs, and carries out discipline when required.
  • Retains overall responsibility for decisions affecting the admissions, program plans, action plans, and discharges of residents.
  • Ensures that professional standards are maintained as related to client documentation and case management.
  • Responsible for creating a safe and secure setting for all clients accessing services at the shelter.
  • Ensures that the facility meets health and safety standards. Acts as co-chair for Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Conduct staff performance appraisals and provide continuous coaching and mentoring.
  • Participates as a member of the management team in the development and review of agency practices and programs.
  • Compiles statistical information and prepares monthly reports.
  • Assists with recruiting and hiring of new employees.
  • Ensure staffing levels are maintained for proper coverage.
  • Oversees and approves staff schedules.
  • Participates on a rotation basis with other designated supervisors and managers to be on-call


Administration and Other Related Activities

  • Oversees the development of forms and records to document program activities.
  • Oversees the collection and maintenance of records on the clients of each program for statistical purposes.
  • Gathers, complies and analyzes statistical information.
  • Communicates with clients and other stakeholders to gain community support for the program and to solicit input to improve the program(s).
  • Monitors the program activities on a regular basis and conducts an annual evaluation according to the program evaluation framework.
  • Prepares agenda and facilitates various staff meetings.
  • Participates on committees and task forces with other agencies addressing issues facing youth.
  • Reviews policies and procedures to ensure best practices for program development.
  • Oversees budget and operating plan to support the program.
  • Reconciles the petty cash and gift cards for the programs, and provides a monthly report.
  • Completes and submits documentation for all agency based purchases.
  • Attends residents meetings to gain and understand feedback.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required given the twenty-four hour nature of our operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • University degree or equivalent in related social services field. Masters in relative field considered an asset.
  • 3-5 years of experience working as a supervisor/manager in the social service sector preferably with a focus on youth homelessness.
  • Understanding of issues relating to youth homelessness and the barriers youth face in attaining and maintaining their housing, as well an understanding of the broader housing sector in Peel.
  • Applies recognized best practices to screening, monitoring, and assessment of programs client centered delivery model.
  • Experience in recruiting and supervising program staff.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing leadership to the staff team.
  • Experience working with budgets, funding proposals and completing funding requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to de-escalate youth in crisis situations on a consistent basis and work independently in high stress environments.
  • Strong ability to work independently with demonstrated decision making skills.
  • Experience in volunteer coordination and supervision.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Experience in recruiting and supervising staff.
