The Downtown East Side Neighbourhood House is looking for volunteers to help with our Family Drop-In program which runs every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:30 to 6:30 pm.

The Family Drop-in program creates a welcoming, safe, and fun environment for local families to come spend time at after school. As part of the program, we provide our families with snacks, arts and crafts, guest speakers and end the evening by cooking and sharing a nutritious family meal together. Also, the families (children, youth and caregivers) who participate in the Family Drop-in work with staff and volunteers to farm our indoor and outdoor urban farm. The ages of kids present range anywhere from 10 months to 14 years old. It’s a great mix of people and a fun atmosphere.

We are hoping to find some volunteers that can help us out one shift a week (or whenever possible!). Volunteer duties may include helping to set up the day’s activities, doing some gardening, interacting and engaging with the families who attend, cooking meals, and clean up.

We provide an orientation and ongoing support to our volunteers. We strive to reward our volunteers for regular service - incentives range from t-shirts to free training programs for reaching different service milestones. We would love you to join our team and help us create a safe and welcoming space for our community.

Please note that applicants are required to undergo a criminal record background check for this role.

We ask for a minimum 3 month commitment.
