Tourism Bowen Island Association is a registered non-profit, member-based organization governed by a nine-person volunteer Board of Directors. Our mission is to foster sustainable tourism, facilitate economic development through tourism, represent and support our membership.

Bowen Island is a municipality of Metro Vancouver, located a short twenty-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay. A community of approximately 3,700 residents, the island is known for its natural beauty, relaxing lifestyle, and small-town charm. Lonely Planet regards Bowen as “one of the best days out you can have from Vancouver.”

Volunteer Treasurer Opportunity

Tourism Bowen Island Association is a young organization, established three years ago. We are seeking a keen, collaborative individual who has the time, interest and aptitude to help the association develop and prosper. This is an exciting time for the organization and an opportunity for the Treasurer and Board Members to make valuable and significant contributions.

We welcome individuals who bring expertise to the Treasurer position, but we equally value someone who may not have extensive experience but who is motivated and willing to invest time and engergy. In return, you'll gain hands-on skills and transferrable industry experience. So in other words, whether you're an accounting vetran or somone just starting out, please feel free to contact us for more informaiton.

Desirable Skill and Interests 

  • Financial management – QuickBooks, budgeting, accounting, reporting, payroll, grant application and reports, etc.
  • Business administration, including strategic planning, relationship building, general operations
  • Non-profit governance, grants, fundraising and legal
  • Good communication skills and ability to collaborate well with others

Treasurer Duties and Deliverables

The Treasurer is a member of Tourism Bowen Island's Board of Directors. Consequently you are required to attend board meetings, normally ten per year and approximately two hours in duration. However, there is the potential to do some board meetings remotely. The Treasurer will also be responsible for regular accounting and payroll throughout the month, budgets, financial statements, etc. This work can be accomplished remotely and casually on your own schedule. Throughout the year, special projects or events may arise, requiring additional assistance. 

You don’t need to be a resident of Bowen Island, but it is expected that you will gain a foundational knowledge of Bowen Island and Tourism Bowen Island's mission and mandate, so that you can confidently contribute to the organization. Board members are expected to make a minimum one-year commitment, but ideally two years.
