Board Directors

Not-for-Profit Volunteer Opportunity

The Opportunity:

InspireHealth (“IH”) is seeking up to four new volunteer directors to join a board of 12 to replace several retirements and to add governance depth to a high functioning board. 2019 is an exciting time to join IH as we are stewarding the realization of a newly developed five-year strategic plan in pursuit of our Mission: to inspire people affected by cancer to enhance their quality of life and well-being by integrating wisdom and evidence-informed practices that support mind, body and spirit.

We are seeking experienced, strategic not-for-profit directors who understand the role of the board in providing oversight, foresight and insight. We welcome expertise in a variety of disciplines, and an interest in participating on one of our three committees: Fundraising Development; Audit and Finance; or Governance and Nominations. We are also embarking on a process to recruit a new Executive Director in 2019 and would welcome directors experienced in CEO selection.

The Organization:

Based in Vancouver and with offices in Victoria and Kelowna, IH is a Canadian leader in supportive cancer care.  Established in 1997, we have provided programs and services to enhance quality of life, health and well-being of people living with cancer and their families.  Cancer rehabilitation services support and educate people during and after cancer treatment.  Services include practical and personalized exercise therapy, stress management, nutrition, and counselling.

Director Qualifications:

Interested candidates should bring:

  • An understanding of corporate governance and experience serving on governance boards.
  • Senior level leadership experience in the corporate, public and/or non-profit sectors; potentially health care, clinical or related fields, but not mandatory.
  • Demonstrated capacity to understand and contribute to business processes, including financial and strategic planning.
  • Understanding of the importance of the board’s role in supporting fundraising efforts; ideally, the ability to contribute both personally, and through outreach to personal and business networks.
  • The ability to commit to board meetings, committee meetings and board events, some of which may occur during business hours. The minimum monthly commitment to board related activities is approximately 6 hours.
  • The desire to work within a group of compassionate leaders in an open, honest and constructive manner for the benefit of our clients and in support of our staff.
  • Be resident in BC, ideally on Vancouver Island, the BC Interior, or Lower Mainland. Board meetings may require travel; reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

The Healing Environment at InspireHealth:

IH operates within a cultural environment of teamwork, self-responsibility, open communication, integrity, and self-care. Our board supports and models similar values. We welcome individuals who are:

  • dedicated to their own personal growth, health and well-being at the levels of mind, body and spirit;
  • self-responsible and accountable;
  • team-oriented and heart-centered;
  • passionate about supportive care - healthy nutrition, exercise, stress reduction and emotional support.

Term of Appointment:

Directors are expected to be able to commit to an initial term of term of three (3) years, with eligibility for re-appointment to a maximum of three (3) consecutive terms (nine years in total).
