Purpose: “To use our knowledge, skills, community relationships, volunteers and other resources to create and promote safe and affordable home ownership options with the aim of alleviating the cycle of poverty within our community of Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga”.   

The role of the ReVive Crew Member is to help upcycle and transform donated products and materials that would otherwise go to landfill. Items that are in need of renewing, up-cycling or refinishing are ‘revived’ and transformed into something that can be sold by Habitat in the ReStores.

Responsible to: The ReVive Manager and ReVive Site Supervisor

Time Commitment: Minimum one shift per week (4 hours)   

Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday from 9am-4pm

Job Duration: Minimum 3 months

Location: 4500 Dixie Road, Unit 11B Mississauga, Ontario

Position Duties:

  • Designing and constructing small wood projects
  • Refinishing furniture
  • Developing new and upcycled products for ReStores
  • Assisting staff in certain affiliate projects, ie pre-cutting playhouses for corporate team builds
  • Ensure shared work spaces remain clean and uncluttered
  • Work safely and in adherence to on-site safety requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Ability to complete, understand and implement training and best practices associated with power tools and hand tools on-site
  • Comfortable standing on concrete floor for up to five hours
  • Previous experience working in a woodshop would be an asset
  • Carpentry, engineering and/or refurbishment skills an asset
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs on occasion throughout a shift
  • A willingness to learn, communicate, take instruction from staff
  • A positive attitude and respect for staff and fellow volunteers

Training:  Must complete Health & Safety training and Site Orientation

Working Conditions: Workshop floor, indoor construction and design
