About Cooksville Care Centre

Home to 157 long term care residents, Cooksville Care Centre maintains a cozy, home-like environment in the Heart of Mississauga. We pride ourselves on providing outstanding, compassionate care to our residents and paying close attention to their individual needs. We are able to enhance residents’ quality of life by meeting their physical, emotional and spiritual needs through excellent care and specialty programs including Java Music Club and Montessori.

The Home also has a separate 35-bed Restore Unit which supports short-term stays until residents are strong and independent enough to return to their homes. Cooksville has launched a Transitional Care Unit as well, with approximately 30 beds which provides an alternative discharge destination for residents unable to remain in their current environment.

Mission Statement

Volunteer Services strive to provide quality volunteer programs that service to enhance the quality of life of the residents, while providing meaningful volunteer placements. We are committed to providing meaningful and rewarding opportunities for our volunteers and offer training and ongoing support for each volunteer role!

Friendly Visiting

Friendly Visits are geared toward residents who prefer one-to-one activities over group activities, those who are bedridden and those who could benefit from regular socialization. Friendly Visiting Volunteers impact the lives of residents by reducing social isolation and improving emotional wellbeing.

As a Friendly Visiting Volunteer, you will be spending time with residents on a one-to-one basis, engaging in bedside activities and conversation including:

  • Reminiscing
  • Bedside exercises
  • iPad
  • Listening to music
  • Reading
  • Boxing
  • Games

The residents of Cooksville are ethnically and culturally diverse. Our residents and staff come from various backgrounds and speak many different languages! We are especially in search of volunteers who speak a second language, particularly Punjabi, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian and Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek and Polish.
