Peel Addiction Assessment and Referral Centre (PAARC) is a community-based, non-profit agency with charitable status, with a mission to significantly reduce the prevalence, harm and impact of addictions and concurrent disorders.  Our head office is in east Mississauga, and we have satellite offices in west Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon.  PAARC partners and collaborates with a wide variety of organizations, including hospitals, other agencies serving those living with addictions and mental illness, municipalities, and correctional services.  We are well respected in our community and enjoy an excellent relationship with our funders.  PAARC is funded primarily by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, through the Mississauga Halton Local Health Integration Network (MH LHIN), the Central West Local Health Integration Network (CW LHIN), and the Region of Peel.  PAARC is also the Peel site provider for the Ontario Back on Track Remedial Measures Program for those convicted of impaired driving or found to be in the warn range.  We are actively involved in the development of Ontario Health Teams, and have just signed on as  members of two, representing the geographical areas we serve.  PAARC is a member of the Metamorphosis Network (our Executive Director is a co-chair of the Network), a network of community-based organizations across the regions of Peel and Halton.  The Metamorphosis Network is well recognized by our LHINs and community for the significant work done with respect to accreditation, Board education, and quality improvement.

PAARC is seeking a volunteer Board Member with active accounting knowledge and skill, and with the following attributes:

  • Team player -- Are you able to engage in dialogue with peers effectively and support group decisions?
  • Able to delegate -- Are you able to separate governance and operations?
  • Analytical skills -- Are you skilled at analyzing quantitative and qualitative information?
  • Governance knowledge -- Are you willing to learn about policy governance, the organization and the environment in which we work, understand the principles of governance philosophy and participate in Board policy review and creation?
  • Passion -- Do you have a passion for PAARC's mission?

Board members are expected to commit approximately six to eight hours per month engaged in Board activities, including preparing for and attending Board and committee meetings, attending funder events and educational events, and one all-day annual Board retreat each year (held on a Saturday).  Variable terms are available.  Regular Board meetings are currently held on the third Thursday of the month, beginning at 6:00 pm, and are held at our head office location at 5170  Dixie Road, Suite 302, Mississauga, L4W 1E3.  Committee and task force meetings are held ad hoc, dependent upon the schedules of the committee and task force members.  Board members must demonstrate that they meet the legal requirements to sit on a Board of Directors for a registered charity in the Province of Ontario.

Board members are unpaid, and are able to submit for expenses incurred in the course of their work on behalf of PAARC, according to our policies.
