to inspire newcomer kids to thrive in Canada!

Join our amazing team of mentors for a rewarding opportunity to positively impact a young person's life!  Be part of a team that has helped over 30000 kids

To attend the info session on February 23 or to apply contact Paula via Email: rdarocha@yay.org

The goal of The Peer Project: Youth mentors help at-risk and newcomer children and youth find their way.  As a mentor, you will offer support and guidance to a younger youth in your community. It only takes 3 hours a week– the time it takes to watch a hockey game, go to a movie, or play some video games.

How does it work?

  • We pair you with a child (aged 6 to 15) based on common interests, background and where you live. From there, the mentoring begins, with ongoing support from us.
  • You will share experiences, skills, and hobbies and inspire a younger youth to stay on the right track.
  • You can volunteer on your schedule (3 hours per week) and close to home.

And it works. 98% of the kids we work with stay in school and out of trouble with the law.

"The Peer Project gave me the chance to instill positive self-worth in a child… and gain a very dear friend.”                  – Krishana, Mentor

What’s in it for you?

  • In a tough job market, being a mentor to an at-risk kid shows community leadership, an attribute that all employers love
  • Build your resume and obtain excellent references from a highly recognized organization
  • You’ll make a real difference that counts in the life of a child
  • You get to do fun stuff for FREE, like attending professional sporting events such as Raptors or Jays games; our annual 3 day Summer Camp up North; and other cool field trips such as Canada’s Wonderland, Wet and Wild and many more.

Note:  Volunteer positions show future employers your drive and dedication. Such accomplishments demonstrate initiative, personal will, leadership skills and the ability to work hard. Future employers highly value these qualities.

Attention self identified females: Please note that we match based on same gender, and at this point 90% of our clients are boys, so we may not have a match for you; therefore, you might not get a response from us until we have clients in your area.
