Public Engagement Volunteer

Are you passionate about social justice? - APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED ON AN ONGOING BASIS.

The Canadian Civil Liberties Association (CCLA) is a human rights organization committed to helping marginalized groups and individuals by fighting for equality and justice at a national level. We have recently fought against the solitary confinement of youth and mentally ill people, challenged forced political speech in Ontario, and are one of only two organizations fighting the religious symbols ban in Quebec. Since 1964, we have relied on activists, donors, and volunteers to help us defend the rights of hundreds of thousands of individuals across the country.

We are looking for a dedicated volunteer passionate about equity who is well versed on the intersectional factors and issues affecting people across Canada, whether that be racial profiling, protecting queer rights, welcoming refugees, etc. You would be helping our team connect with donors and the general public to further CCLA’s goals and vision.

Training will be provided, duties will include:

  • Engaging with donors via telephone to provide updates on our work, answering donation questions, updating payment information, and participating in reactivation/upsell calls for monthly donations.
  • Attending volunteer meetings as required to stay knowledgeable on the impact of our organization.
  • Attending the Trans parade and other public engagements (protests, rallies, etc) to show marginalized groups support.
  • Contributing to awareness and fundraising efforts as needed.
  • Assisting in the thanking of donors via phone, email, and mail.
  • Assisting in the mailing of donation appeals to our donor base.
  • Admin work and event assistance as needed.

Required:

  • A commitment to CCLA’s mission and a deep understanding of social justice issues coupled with a passion for helping people.
  • Comfortable speaking to donors on the phone and in person in a professional manner.
  • Must be resourceful, reliable, organized, and have great time management skills.
  • Good oral communications and the ability to maintain positive relationship with donors, staff, and other volunteers.

Interested in doing more? Here are some bonus things you can help us with:

  • Content creation for Instagram and other social media platforms.
  • Translation work to make our resources more accessible.
  • Assist in the research of potential donation leads as needed.

Volunteer opportunities are flexible, but we hope that a volunteer can commit to at least a short 3-month commitment. We work in an accessible building and can happily make accommodations as required. If you have any questions or wish to apply, please contact Maria Rio at (416)-646-1404.
