Job Summary & Essential Duties
The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for creating and managing a strong community to support the activities of the organization. Because our charitable work takes place in Nicaragua where they speak Spanish, fluency is an essential component of the work. You will be supporting various tasks of the organization based on your qualifications that may include supporting social activities, fundraisers, and presentations and encouraging volunteer participation. As well, an in depth knowledge base of Nicaragua and the context of our work is important.
Interact with communities in Toronto that are passionate about seeing improvements in rural Nicaraguan health and education
Attend our monthly meeting and event - Development Works - an international development speaker series focussing on best practices in international development
Build and maintain a group that is dedicated to supporting our work in Nicaragua
Engage with our volunteer team to help them connect to their work
Be passionate about our cause, and actively engage in opportunities as they arise
What you need:
A thorough understanding and knowledge base of Nicaraguan cultural context and history
Fluency in English and Spanish
An understanding of using online tools to facilitate outreach (email, facebook, twitter)
Understanding of the Canadian/Nicaraguan charitable sector or international development
