We've grown so fast and are currently seeking an experienced leader to serve in the role of Board Chair. Our interm chair and the Founder/CEO of the organization will ensure you have all the support you need.

Founded in 2011, Voice Found is a survivor led Canadian charitable organization. Our mission is to prevent child sex abuse and commercial sexual exploitation and support the healing and recovery of individuals and communities from the health, financial and emotional impacts of sexual exploitation. This is accomplished through direct service provision as well as education and advocacy.

Level of Involvement:

Voice Found’s board is the key governance body responsible for policy and funding decisions concerning our complete operations. This is a volunteer board, requiring participation at board level as well as sitting on, and/or chairing committees that are struck by the board in order to fulfill our mission. The Board of Directors meets the last Monday of each month at 5:15 pm.

As board chair you will: 

  • Guide the Board in the fulfillment of its mandate. In guiding and directing the Board, ensures that the focus of the Board's attention is on strategically important issues and that there is cohesion of direction and purpose at a policy and strategic level.
  • Convene and preside over board meetings. In consultation with CEO, set and approve meeting agendas and ensure minutes are drafted and subsequently reviewed and approved. 
  • Build consensus and develop teamwork within the board
  • Ensure the board has resources to fulfill its responsibilities, including the provision of timely and relevant background information for Board and Committee meetings and educational opportunities for Board members, and that sufficient time is allotted during meetings for effective discussion of agenda items and key issues and concerns.
  • Maintain knowledge of  governance practices
  • Oversee effective and transparent processes for review and evaluation of CEO and board of directors
  • Represent the Board and appears on  behalf of the organization at special functions 

Board Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill governance and stewardship role to ensure the long term success of the organization
  • Promotion of the organization and its mission in the community at large, and build new supporters.
  • Engage with key stakeholders including funders, partners, donors and supporters.
  • Adhere to the bylaws, policies and purposes of the Organization as set out in the articles of incorporation
  • Help the Board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities including approval and oversight of the annual budget

Expectations of Board Members:

  • Attend and participate in meetings and special events on a regular basis
  • Participate on one of board committees; serve on ad-hoc committees as necessary
  • Be alert to needs and concerns that can be addressed by Voice Found’s mission, objectives, and programs.
  • Help communicate and promote Voice Found’s mission and programs
  • Become familiar with Voice Found’s finances, budget, and financial/resource needs
  • Understand the policies and procedures of Voice Found

    Applicants for this role requires that you have experience and knowledge of governance in charitable organizations in Canada.  

    Board members hold their positions as per the terms of the Constitution and Bylaws of the organization. Individuals who are Canadian residents may apply for appointment to the Board. Applicants are expected to adhere to the mission and vision of Voice Found.
