Evenings: (M-Th): 6 PM – 8 PM

Weekends: (Sat) 10 AM – 2 PM


Long term -  Conduct a minimum of 4 workshops per year  

Habitat for Humanity Greater Toronto Area is a nonprofit housing organization that believes everyone deserves a safe and decent place to live. We mobilize volunteers and communities to help working, lower-income families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.  With the help of volunteers, donors, and community partners, we have built close to 400 homes for local families in need of decent shelter, touching the lives of approximately 1,200 children. 

Position Overview

The Family Services Department is currently recruiting 3 volunteer workshop instructors to lead our Homeowner Training Series. We are looking for qualified and passionate educators who are looking for an exciting way to give back to the Toronto and Brampton-Caledon communities. 

The Homeowner Training Series consists of 4 interactive workshops that cover key topics related to Habitat homeownership: Ambassador Training, Financial Planning & Management, Condominium Ownership and Legal Relationships. Workshops are delivered in 4 hour blocks on Saturdays.  Instructors will also act as workshop host and coordinate logistical details such as registration and refreshments. All materials and refreshments will be prepared in advance and made available to you on the day of the workshop.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend initial orientation and one training workshop for each topic prior to instructing
  • Conduct a minimum of 4 workshops per year
  • Work with Family Services team to coordinate yearly training schedule
  • Operate within the philosophy, culture, and values of the organization
  • Make a minimum 1 year commitment to the program

Qualifications /Skills/Physical Requirements

  • Professional teacher/trainer credentials (B.Ed, or adult education certificate)
  • Experience teaching in an adult learning environment
  • Experience working with a diverse multicultural and multilingual community
  • ESL qualifications or experience an asset
  • Demonstrated compassion when dealing with people
  • Committed to volunteering and interest in volunteering for a non-profit
  • Comfortable using presentation equipment and software (laptop, projector, MS Powerpoint)
