Central Toronto Youth Services (CTYS) is seeking 2 people to fill vacancies on our Board of Directors. One of these individuals is required to fill the position of Treasurer of the Board. In addition, we are seeking expertise in one or more of the following areas: program evaluation/quality improvement; change management; legal knowledge/experience; governance.
Central Toronto Youth Services is an accredited not-for-profit youth mental health agency serving some of Toronto’s most vulnerable youth. We are funded by the Ontario Ministries of Children, Community and Social Services and Health and Long Term Care and the agency is registered as a charity with Canada Revenue Agency. For detailed information about our services and our current Board of Directors, please visit http://www.ctys.org/ and https://ctys.org/information/about/board-of-directors/ .
The Board of Directors is responsible for organizational governance which includes providing strategic leadership, ensuring that the agency is complying with relevant legislation and policies, monitoring risk and accomplishment of goals, hiring and evaluating the executive director and representing the organization at external events. Members of the Board of Directors (Directors) are volunteers and serve without remuneration.
All Directors are expected to familiarize themselves with the Board agenda and relevant material and to attend and participate actively in Board meetings. Directors must comply with the Board’s policies and procedures including the avoidance of real or perceived conflicts of interest. Depending on their skills and interests, Directors may assume additional responsibilities on behalf of the Board. The time commitment for Directors is approximately 4-6 hours per month depending on specific roles.
In addition to the above responsibilities of all Directors, the Treasurer chairs the Finance and Audit Committee of the Board and is responsible for reporting regularly to the rest of the Board on the agency’s finances and compliance with relevant regulations, policies and standards. The Treasurer must hold a CPA or other recognized accounting designation.
CTYS appreciates the rich diversity of our clients, staff and communities. We recognize the existence of systemic discrimination and barriers and the reality of issues such as homophobia, transphobia, racism and ableism among other forms of discrimination and oppression. We strive to challenge these realities in the work we do and are committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of our clients and the population of Toronto and surrounding areas. We encourage applications from qualified individuals who reflect a diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and communities.
Selected candidates will meet with representatives of the Board of Directors before appointment to the Board is finalized. Orientation to the agency and the Board will be provided for new Directors. We appreciate the interest of all candidates. Only those who are selected to meet with Board representatives will be contacted.
