Position Title: Peer Educator, Teen Programming
Agency Description: Planned Parenthood Toronto is a fully accredited community health centre that provides primary health clinical services to youth 13 to 29 years as well as education, outreach, training and research for Toronto’s diverse youth communities.
Program Description: Teen Programming at PPT provides sexual health information to GTA teens through the operation of Teen Health Source, a peer-based phone/text/email/chat service. Teen Health Source also runs a comprehensive sexual health website, www.teenhealthsource.com. Teen Programming utilizes a peer education model, where teen volunteers are provided with comprehensive training to equip them with the skills to respond to sexual and reproductive health information requests from their peers, and to develop new resources.
Eligibility: This volunteer opportunity is open to all youth who are between the ages of 16 and 19.
Training: Training take place in November over multiple weeks for a total of 30 hours. Training will run one evening a week and some Saturdays. Attending all sessions is mandatory. Training is designed to increase your knowledge of sexual and reproductive health and to develop the necessary skills to provide information and respond to questions from teens that access this service.

Commitment: Once the training is completed, volunteers must be available for three hours during at least one of the program’s shift times per week: Monday-Thursday 4:00-7:00pm and 6:00-9:00pm, and Saturday 12:00-3:00pm and 2:00–5:00pm. Volunteers are required to meet this commitment for one year following the completion of training.

Each of PPT’s peer-based volunteer programs strives to recruit and maintain a diverse pool of volunteers, representing the various communities these programs serve. For Teen Programming, applications are encouraged from Indigenous youth, Black youth, youth of colour, youth of all genders and sexualities, and youth with experiences of migration. We encourage you to self-identify when applying.
Accessibility Note: We provide TTC tickets/tokens to all volunteers, as well as snacks! We have gender neutral washrooms, although our building is not physically accessible to wheelchairs or other mobility devices.
