POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Canadian Network for International Surgery (CNIS) brings lifesaving surgical, obstetrical and nursing training to low-income countries, with a particular focus on sub-Saharan Africa. We are currently seeking an organized and dedicated volunteer to help plan a fundraising dinner (with silent auction) in support of our surgical and obstetrical skills programs. The theme of the event is TBD and will be held in Vancouver, BC on the evening of Thursday, November 14, 2019.

DELIVERABLES/DUTIES

With direction (and delegation) from CNIS staff, assist in planning and executing a successful plated dinner fundraiser (with silent auction) by:

  • Proposing ideas to improve event quality and fundraising outcomes
  • Obtaining silent auction items via solicitation letters, visits and phone calls
  • Planning and coordinating publicity for the event (ticket sales, email blasts, social media, etc.)
  • Planning decor/equipment for the event (awards, programs, silent auction items, etc.)
  • Liaising with location staff regarding event logistics (microphones, speakers, table arrangement, seating, etc.)
  • Ensuring compliance with event budget
  • Setting-up, running and taking-down the event
  • Troubleshooting any arising issues/problems leading up to and on the event day

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in planning events (especially fundraisers and silent auctions)
  • Marketing/promotion experience
  • Graphic design experience a plus
  • Strong organizational, time management, project coordination, and communication skills
  • Outgoing, self-motivated, able to work independently, and committed to project execution
  • Access to own computer, internet, and phone (some tasks may have to be completed by the volunteer off-site due to limited access to spare office equipment)
