EEON is currently looking to fill 4 – 7 positions on our Board of Directors. With no permanent staff, we are a working board; this means all Directors support EEON and its objectives in various ways. This can include creating communications, leading special projects, updating our website and social media pages, while also managing governance and strategic planning. So, being a self-starter and being motivated to support EEON’s mission are the most important requirements for this role.

Qualifications: No previous Board experience is necessary, but some would be an asset. A breadth of qualifications will be considered because a diverse team is required to collaborate most effective. EEON is specifically looking to build capacity in the following areas:

  • Market Research: understanding how people in different parts of the province think about and react to environmental issues and messaging.
  • Fundraising/Membership Development: experience with fundraising, membership engagement, grant writing, or strategic partnerships.
  • Communications: experience in online marketing and communications. Web development and data analytics skills would be an asset.
  • Environmental Education: knowledge of theories in environmental and adult Relevant experience delivering eco-literacy programming to groups within Ontario.
  • Accounting: experience with bookkeeping and/or accounting.

Responsibilities: Directors assume special responsibilities as defined by EEON’s by-laws and the laws governing non-profit corporations in Ontario. Directors are expected to act in the interests of EEON and to support its objectives. Each director is also expected to make recommendations (on governance, programming, communications, etc.) based on his or her knowledge, experience and skills. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Regularly prepare for and participate in Board meetings and special events
  • Lead or support current projects based on interest and ability
  • Help to communicate and promote EEON’s mission and programs to the community
  • Participate in EEON fundraising activities
  • Ensure succession planning for the Board of Directors

Meetings and Time Commitment: The Board of Directors meets, on average, every other month, or 6-8 times per year. Directors are asked to devote an average of 5-10 hours per month to EEON business above and beyond board meetings.

Length of Term: 2 years. This can be renewed for an additional term, pending approval by a majority of members at an Annual General Meeting.
