STAO is looking for a Board member who will be a key member of our governance team, and who will have both an oversight and a hands-on role in financial management. The Treasurer will work with and be supported by our Executive Director and our Board's Finance Committee. Areas of focus will include: monthly financial statements and reporting, annual budget development, and short and long-term financial analysis and planning. Ideally this individual would live in or close to the Greater Toronto Area. The position does not involve: bookkeeping, expense verification, cheque writing and other operational finance activities.

Key Accountabilities:

  1. To provide support and guidance in financial management for the association, specifically:
    • To provide advice to the Board and Executive Director on financial matters
    • To oversee STAO’s financial policies
    • To take a lead responsibility in preparing STAO’s quarterly statements, trend analysis and overview report, well supported by the Executive Director and the Board of Director’s Finance Committee
    • To work with the Executive Director to ensure a smooth process with our Auditors
  2. Serve a term of three years, and be eligible for re-appointment to a subsequent term or terms
  3. Provide advice regarding maintenance of central Financial records
  4. Act as one of the signing authorities for investment documents
  5. Act as the liaison with and provide direction to the investment advisor, working in collaboration with the Board’s Finance Committee and Executive Director
  6. Be an engaged member, including attendance at meetings of the Board and Finance Committee

The Treasurer is appointed by and accountable to the Board.
