TREASURER

Kensington-Bellwoods Community Legal Services (KBCLS) is seeking a Treasurer to join its Board of Directors.

ABOUT KBCLS

KBCLS is a not-for-profit community legal clinic, funded by Legal Aid Ontario, providing free legal services to the low-income residents of our community.  Legal services include providing summary advice, representation and assistance, as well as referrals on non-legal matters of concern to clients.  Areas of law practiced include social assistance, tenants’ rights, employment standards, human rights and immigration.  KBCLS is also actively engaged in a range of public legal education, law reform, and community development activities.

THE ROLE

  • Serve in a volunteer capacity as a member of the Board that is committed to serving the needs of low-income individuals and families. Preference will be given to individuals living and/or working within the clinic’s catchment area (south of Bloor to Lake Ontario, west of Yonge, east of Ossington/Strachan).
  • Attend monthly Board meetings, which are currently held in the evening on the fourth Monday of each month.
  • Participate in the life of the organization between Board meetings, advising the staff team as required.
  • Be responsible for chairing the Finance Committee and monitoring and advising the Board on the financial management of the organization, compliance with financial policies and controls, budgeting, auditing, and cash flow.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A CPA financial designation or equivalent is required for this position.
  • An understanding of the KBCLS community and a passion for its cause.
  • Ability to operate as part of a team.
