Role Description

As a Public Relations and Marketing Team Lead, the candidate will be responsible for providing instruction, guidance, mentorship and motivation to team members volunteering with TAST’s PR and Marketing Team to ensure that team and project goals are achieved. Other general duties will also include liaising communications between TAST’s executive board/staff and PR team members, identifying, assigning and monitoring team tasks, preparing team reports and other required documentation, and organizing and chairing team meetings in addition to any other essential duties that may arise.



  • Develop and direct public relations, social media and marketing projects including implementing marketing plan strategies, goals and budget, consulting in the design and creation of press kits, program promotion materials and volunteer recruitment (i.e. pamphlets, flyers, posters etc.), monitor and manage social media team members overseeing website and social media network communication operations (i.e. blogging), and coordinating public relations and advertising activities

  • Oversee team collaboration in composing, editing and distributing content for TAST’s monthly newsletter

  • Delegate PR project tasks to team members and set assignment deadlines in addition to establishing team goals

  • Organize, schedule and chair monthly team meetings

  • Research and analyze industry trends impacting marginalized children and youth and advise on communication strategies regarding PR and outreach

  • Assess and recommend opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising

  • Monitor and report team member performance, ensure that TAST’s polices and best practices are maintained and updated in the TAST PR Team Volunteer Handbook

  • Provide support and coaching to team members as needed in addition to identifying and reporting gaps in knowledge, training and other resources that may to key to achieving project goals or team motivation

  • Consult with executive team in development of marketing communication plan and strategies to engage clients across traditional and new media

  • Liaise with event planner to coordinate public relation activities for special events

  • Attend monthly board meetings to provide report on PR results and team progress

  • Complete other job related tasks and projects assigned by Executive Director



  • University or college undergraduate, postgraduate, graduate or professionals working or studying in the field of communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, or other related fields

  • Solid writing, editing and communication skills

  • Have interest in engineering, technology, science and math education

  • Previous experience in organizing and managing public relations

and social media campaigns

  • Experience with event planning an asset

  • Knowledge of internet, social media networks, and Microsoft operating systems including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Publisher and Excel

  • Solid experience with social media platforms including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, blogs etc.

  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills

  • Works well within an interdisciplinary team in a diverse and dynamic work environment

  • Excellent organization, creativity, interpersonal and project management skills

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision when required

  • Previous work or volunteer experience in community outreach and a passion for working with children and youth, especially from high priority or marginalized communities is an asset but no required

  • Fluency in languages other than English is an asset
