About Cooksville Care Centre

Home to 157 long term care residents, Cooksville Care Centre maintains a cozy, home-like environment in the Heart of Mississauga. We pride ourselves on providing outstanding, compassionate care to our residents and paying close attention to their individual needs. We are able to enhance residents’ quality of life by meeting their physical, emotional and spiritual needs through excellent care and specialty programs including Java Music Club and Montessori.

The Home also has a separate 35-bed Restore Unit which supports short-term stays until residents are strong and independent enough to return to their homes. Cooksville has launched a Transitional Care Unit as well, with approximately 30 beds which provides an alternative discharge destination for residents unable to remain in their current environment.

Mission Statement

Volunteer Services strive to provide quality volunteer programs that service to enhance the quality of life of the residents, while providing meaningful volunteer placements. We are committed to providing meaningful and rewarding opportunities for our volunteers and offer training and ongoing support for each volunteer role!

About the Java Mentorship Program

Java Mentorship is a recreational therapeutic activity program that is intended to reach the residents who typically are difficult to engage and who don’t attend programs offered in residential settings.

Community volunteers and volunteer residents form a team that meets weekly. They pair up (higher functioning mentors supporting those that need assistance), and visit lonely or socially isolated residents.

These mentors model active engagement and encourage those they visit to participate in programs that would help enhance their social connections with their peers and their social identity.

The program includes a team meeting that happens before the visits in an inviting social setting. The team meetings follow a structured guide that includes ongoing education, needs evaluations, support and recognition.
