The Volunteer’s Role

Are you passionate about assisting rural women weavers thrive in their business and improving their lives and those of their communities?

As the Business Development Specialist, you will strengthen the capacity of Basey Association for Native Industry Growth (BANIG) which supports entrepreneurship, employment and income generation of rural women, small-scale entrepreneurs, their families and their communities. BANIG is a federation of 20 women’s organizations in the town of Basey, Samar. As the women continue to build their business, you will facilitate their learning and mastering of running their business successfully and planning for growth and expansion. As a well-rounded business advisor, overall, you will support them develop their business and marketing plan and improve their bookkeeping and financial management system.

As a volunteer, you will:

- Conduct organizational assessments to understand the operations, as well as the business needs, strengths and gaps

- Develop/enhance business, marketing strategy and materials (brochure, catalogue, etc.)

- Train the members and officers of the organization on the basics of business communication (email, social media)

- Support improvements of financial management systems (bookkeeping, financial statement – profit & loss, balance statement)

Essential Academic Qualifications:

-A university degree in Business Administration, Finance, or other related area or equivalent professional/volunteer experience

Essential Professional Background:

- Minimum of 3 - 5 years’ experience in business, ideally with skills in organizational assessment and development, business planning and marketing

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Ability to adapt and apply business knowledge and techniques to grass roots organization

Support Package

- Modest monthly living allowance (varies depending country)

- Pre-departure training and in-country orientation

- Travel and accommodation for reintegration debriefing weekend

- Modest support for accompanying partners and dependents going on placement with you for 12 months or longer

- Cuso International assessment day (Candidates must cover the first $200 of the most cost-effective travel expenses and all accommodation costs).

- Travel and accommodation for the five-day pre-departure training course and for in-country orientation

- Bonus: Additional return flight home or cash in lieu after 12 months of service for volunteers who extend for another 6 months
