We are recruiting now for this volunteer role, it is an immediate and urgent requirement!

The Greater Vancouver Food Bank has 13 Community Food Hub locations across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and North Vancouver. Each week we assist 28,000 people to access our services through our Community Food Hubs and Partner Agencies.

Useful things to know about your time at our head office

We have a comfortable lounge area where our volunteers can relax during their break, free snacks / refreshments are also provided. There are secure lockers for you to put your personal belongings in during your shift. Our new bright, spacious warehouse / head office has a custom-built kitchen for hosting workshops and events, and has increased freezer and refrigeration capacity allowing us to accept even more fresh and frozen nutritious food. We are located in Burnaby, within close walking distance to Production Way Skytrain and there is free parking onsite.

About the role

Come and join us where you will play a key role in supporting our operations team. This role will suit someone with good warehouse skills and enjoys working with a team. This role requires experience operating a forklift and a valid forklift license. Operating a forklift and assisting with moving food donations will be your main duties, along with helping keep the warehouse tidy and organized. Other related duties as assigned.

Shift days and times

Monday to Friday: 6am – 12:00pm or 8am-12:00pm. However we would like volunteers to be flexible wherever possible.
Volunteers need to be able to commit to at least one shift a week for at least 1 month or longer.

Main duties include:
Sorting and organizing food.
Lifting boxes to build orders of 20 to 50lbs (i.e. potatoes).
Operating a forklift
Help to keep work areas clean and tidy.
Other related duties as assigned.

Volunteer skills:
Strong attention to detail.
Be able to take direction.
Have a valid forklift licence.
Be kind, friendly, supportive and helpful.
Be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
Be able to move and stand for around 4-5 hours.
Have good communication and people skills.
Be organized, dependable and reliable.
Multicultural and Language.
