Lakeshore Arts is seeking dynamic, engaged, and hard-working individuals committed to furthering the impacts of arts and culture to join our Board of Directors.

The role of the Board of Directors is to advise on policy, planning and strategic direction, and assist with the leadership and promotion of Lakeshore Arts Mission, Vision, and Values in accordance with its bylaws.

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. Previous experience on a not-for-profit board is considered an asset.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Board


 Financial/fiduciary oversight

  • Review quarterly statements – come to the meeting with questions, concerns, interest
  • Be prepared to vote on the recommendations of the financial committee brought forward to the Board by the Treasurer

Participate in a Committee

  • Select one committee to actively participate on, if you have interest in more than one, act as a resource to the secondary interest. Current committees are: Fundraising, Partnership and Outreach, Finance (limited spots).

Engage in strategic planning activities

  • Be prepared to set aside time (may be an evening, or a Saturday) to participate in a facilitated meeting to develop a strategic plan. Be part of positive change!
  • Read any necessary documentation prior to the meetings, come informed to help make impactful decisions
  • If a strategic plan exists, be prepared to familiarize yourself with its goals and assist with a 6 month review. 


  • Be prepared to provide input into an annual funding strategy; fundraising goals, goals outlined and approved at the Strategic Planning sessions, as well as the overarching goal of keeping the organization sustainable, strong and continuing to meet the needs of the communities it serves. 
  • Determine your commitment, level of support of time and/or money at the onset of each fiscal. This includes renewal of your annual membership fee in a timely manner and setting intentions for yearly donations.



  • Develop strategies for meaningful engagement with community and members. If Lakeshore Arts is your charity of choice, what tools do you need to help share that passion? Ask staff to identify opportunities for engagement, tasks and provide speaking notes to ensure your time is used in a meaningful way.
  • Understand organizations annual goals, mandate and vision to clearly represent and support the organization. This will make sharing your love of Lakeshore Arts to anyone!
  • Develops and delivers an annual Board Orientation to new members and existing members who want a refresher – provide opportunity for President to share their vision and benchmarks for their term of office.
