About YATI:

The Youth Advocacy Training Institute (YATI) is a program of The Lung Association, funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care through the Smoke-Free Ontario Strategy. YATI equips youth, young adults, and adults working with young people with the knowledge and skills to prevent and reduce tobacco use, promote health, and advocate for positive change in their communities through youth engagement. YATI does this through training programs and partnership projects that support the Government’s goal of reaching the lowest smoking rate in Canada.

Position Overview:

The Program Manager, Youth Advocacy Training Institute (YATI) would help bridge the gap between the needs of stakeholders and development of curriculum through a more coordinated management of YATI’s training program.

Working with the Provincial Manager of YATI & Youth Engagement, this individual would oversee and manage the training program including delivery of YATI training services (relationship building with stakeholders, management of training systems and processes including needs assessment, trainer correspondence, feedback, and evaluation). They would direct curriculum to Community Education Specialists and consultants as well as support in their development. With support from the Provincial Manager this individual would also initiate, develop, and manage several key priority projects crucial to the YATI program and broader Lung Association.


  • Management of the day-to-day activities of the YATI program including training administration, YATI youth engagement initiatives, partnership projects
  • Coordination of curricular revisions and adaptations including orientation of trainers to training programs and adaptation of evaluation tools accordingly.
  • Oversee and review the development of educational resources, curricula and tools that support YATI training programs and youth engagement partnership initiatives for quality improvement and consistency of trainings.
  • Oversee and provide leadership to YATI facilitators to support training needs and assure quality
  • Coordination of evaluation tool revisions, data set creation and data collection and entry.
  • Public Health relationship management, needs’ assessment and consultation.
  • Technical assistance by phone, email and in-person regarding youth engagement in health promotion and advocacy, youth health program development, etc.
  • YATI stakeholder management including communications and relationship management.
  • Contribute to the preparation and submission of all The Lung Association and MOHTLC reports.
  • Lead key YATI partnership projects and youth engagement projects including but not limited to the NOT program.
  • As necessary support youth engagement projects for the larger Health Promotion goals of The Lung Association.
  • Training Program Management:
    • Conduct needs assessments with client groups regarding training needs and appropriate follow-up after all trainings
    • Develops new and maintains existing relationships with youth-serving agencies.
    • Participates in implementation  of training where appropriate
    • Direct and lead curriculum writers in the development of new curriculum or revision or existing curriculum – including communicating needs of stakeholders and ensuring curriculum development fits
    • Represent YATI on communities of practice and other related committees as assigned.


  • University degree in education, health promotion or health sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; related post graduate experience would be an asset
  • 5-7 years’ experience in project management, preferably in charitable, education, social services, and or health fields.
  • 5-7  years’ experience working with youth and young adults (12-30) including demonstrated knowledge of best practice in positive youth development
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage relationships: excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills including the ability to work respectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including knowledge of social media
  • Experience in the development, facilitation, and evaluation of curriculum and related materials.
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating projects
  • strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingualism would be an asset
