Director, Employer Engagement and Stakeholder Relations

The Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC) creates and champions solutions to better integrate skilled immigrants in the Greater Toronto Region labour market. 


TRIEC seeks a highly motivated and strategic Director, Employer Engagement and Stakeholder Relations, who will seek to build stakeholder engagement in TRIEC’s work and TRIEC’s capacity to influence employers towards creating more immigrant-inclusive workplaces.

In this leadership position you will develop strategic and operations plans that will build on our existing success and create new opportunities to improve employer engagement, strengthen existing relationships, and create organizational policy change.

This position engages with multiple stakeholders and will work closely with service delivery agencies to build shared approaches and solutions to the issue, as well as directly supporting more employers in making change by growing and deepening TRIEC’s employer relationships.

This position reports to the Executive Director and has four direct reports.



  • Lead strategic and business planning activities, establishing objectives, setting targets and allocating resources.
  • Design and recommend programs, campaigns, and initiatives to engage and develop employer commitment to immigrant inclusion.
  • Develops and implements a systemic way of measuring employers’ progress towards being immigrant inclusive.
  • Develops and implements a stakeholder engagement strategy in collaboration with Executive Director, BOD, and Director, Immigrant Employment Strategies.
  • Develop and implement a partnership-building strategy that creates employer commitment through acknowledgement, recognition and stewardship.
  • Research and identify outreach opportunities and strategies.
  • Generate new employer contacts using cold calls, content marketing, mailings, networking and other lead generation strategies.
  • Lead the team in outreach and follow-up activities, ensuring high-quality interactions and accurate record-keeping.
  • Develop relationships with stakeholder partners to foster collaboration toward shared outreach objectives.
  • Provide financial management and analysis, preparing and monitoring budgets and overseeing resource allocation.
  • Lead the team in meeting the employer engagement goals for TRIEC programs including The Mentoring Partnership (TMP), Learning Initiatives, and Professional Immigrant Networks (PINs.)
  • Plan, prioritize and manage the work of employees, providing strategic and tactical advice, guidance and coaching, participating in the staffing and selection processes, managing, reviewing and evaluating performance, and assessing training and development needs.
  • Work with communications staff to develop marketing communications and campaigns for employer engagement.
  • Develop a framework for the ongoing enhancement, evaluation and optimization of existing programs in order to ensure their success and maximize benefits.
  • Pursue funding for Employer Engagement and Learning Services that includes governments, foundations and fee-for-service revenue generation.
  • Works closely with Executive Director to secure revenue for the TMP National Growth project.



Need to Have’s:

  • Deep and demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity and inclusion.
  • At least 5 years of program, HR or marketing leadership experience, with proven success in developing and optimizing programs in partnership with other organizations and with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience directly managing people and leading a team.
  • A University degree, ideally in a related field such as Business, Marketing or Communications.
  • An understanding of the human resources and recruiting needs and practices of employers in a variety of sectors.
  • Understanding and experience in seeking and receiving government funding.
  • The ideal candidate has an extensive background in either (or a combination of):
    • Non-profit or Government program management
    • Corporate HR, Recruiting or Diversity & Inclusion (with a history of leading new initiatives)
    • An employment agency or staffing firm
    • B2B marketing or communications

Nice to Have’s:

  • Experience advancing diversity and inclusion (D&I) in an organization (ex. policy and program change and outcomes), or direct experience with the D&I issues.
  • Specialized knowledge of (or experience in) employment, job development, and/or recruitment.
  • Experience developing and implementing revenue generation strategies.
  • Salesforce CRM experience.


  • Superior relationship-building and stewardship skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to establish credibility, influence outcomes and work effectively and collaboratively with a wide variety of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Strong team player and coach who can bring out the best in staff, stakeholders and partners.
  • High level of discretion, good judgment, and skill in diplomacy.
  • Strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to excellence, with demonstrated ability to initiate and improve processes.
  • Proven project management skills to see projects through from conception to final implementation.
  • Organizational and planning skills, with the ability to cope with multiple demands and manage competing priorities.
  • Salesforce and social enterprise experience an asset.



This is a full-time position based at the TRIEC downtown Toronto office. The annual salary range is 80,000$ - 85,000$.
