Communications Coordinator

Communications Coordinator – Part-Time (0.4 FTE)

This is an exciting and comprehensive position with the opportunity to play an integral role in the evolution of the Dalai Lama Center, and the promotion of Heart-Mind well-being in the province and beyond.

The mission of the Dalai Lama Center for Peace + Education is to educate the hearts of children by informing, inspiring and engaging the communities around them. Our goal is for BC to become the first major jurisdiction in the world to realize the Dalai Lama’s vision for a Heart-Mind balance in schools, community and families. The Dalai Lama Center is a non-religious, non-political organization that brings a collaborative and evidence-informed approach to the social and emotional development of children and youth.



The Dalai Lama Center for Peace is seeking a Communications Coordinator who will have overall responsibility for all aspects of the DLC’s communications, social media and marketing activities of the Center. The Communications Coordinator will ensure brand consistency across all platforms, and will be responsible for the organizations communications strategy.



The Communications Coordinator reports to the President & CEO and works in collaboration with all Dalai Lama Center staff, consultants and volunteers.



  • Develops an annual Communications Plan that is comprehensive, diversified and in line with overall DLC Strategic Plan
  • Ensures brand consistency across all communications platforms and creates a process and procedure for staff to ensure sign off and approval of all materials
  • Provides hands on assistance, mentoring and support within the DLC team to achieve organizational and program marketing/communications objectives, including Powerpoint presentations, videos, pamphlets, manuals and/or other training materials 
  • Oversees, sources and creates content for all social media platforms including but not limited to DLC Facebook, Twitter, and Heart-Mind Online Facebook & Twitter
  • Monitors analytics and social media activity and reports weekly to Team
  • Creates media kits, writes press releases and generates story ideas for media, blogs and websites
  • Responsible for initiating and developing updates, improvements and content for both DLC websites: and
  • Works collaboratively with Program staff, providing communications expertise and generating ideas for promotion of enrolment in our programs and events, both on and offline
  • Works effectively as part of the DLC's Development Team by contributing communications and marketing expertise to Development proposals, reports and presentations as required
  • Advances current graphic design, web design, survey writing and analysis, and blogging practices within organization and programs to produce innovative and engaging communications materials 
  • Develops and maintains the organizations’ privacy policy and all marketing /communications procedures and policies
  • Works with and maintains excellent working relationships with DLC suppliers and service providers
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Diploma/designation in Communications/Marketing and/or 3-5 years of communications/marketing experience
  • Excellent team player
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Well organized with an attention to detail
  • Proven ability to take initiative and bring projects to completion with minimal supervision
  • Reporting and measurement strengths
  • Grant writing expertise an asset
  • Competence in Adobe Suite
  • IT troubleshooting an asset (Mac)
  • Knowledge of Drupal an asset
