Arthritis Research Canada/Arthrite-recherche Canada is home to the largest clinical arthritis research centre in North America. Since its creation in 1999, Arthritis Research Canada has earned international recognition for its research aimed at preventing arthritis, facilitating early diagnosis, finding new and better treatments, and improving quality of life for people living with arthritis. Arthritis Research Canada has an exciting new opportunity for a seasoned fundraising professional to join its innovative and inclusive team as Fund Development Director. The position is based at Arthritis Research Canada’s Vancouver offices, our national headquarters. POSITION OVERVIEW: Arthritis Research Canada is currently looking for a permanent, full-time Fund Development Director. Working closely with both the Executive Director and the Scientific Director, the Fund Development Director is a key member of the management team, with responsibility for leading all fund development initiatives and activities within the organization’s strategic priorities. This role is responsible for developing multi-year fundraising plans that include, expanding our donor base, amplifying our public profile, and engaging internal and external interest holders in meaningful ways that build lasting relationships and improve net revenue to drive financial sustainability.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership

- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Scientific Director to develop short and long-range funding strategies, including the creation, monitoring, and evaluation of multi-year development plans and targets that align with organizational priorities.

- Develop and implement government relations strategy in partnership with the senior leadership team and Board members.

- Provide leadership to the Fund Development team in the planning and execution of all fundraising programs.

- Collaborate with the Board and staff to stay aligned on current and future needs, ensuring staff are informed and actively involved in fundraising efforts as required.

- Foster a culture of philanthropy across the organization. Fund Development

- Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies across multiple categories, including Annual Giving, Major Gifts, Planned Giving, Corporate Sponsorship, Foundations, Events, and Monthly Donor Programs.

- Evaluate and advance the annual giving program with a focus on retention and growth. - Identify, analyze, and implement new innovative opportunities for relationship building. - Manage a portfolio of Major Gift prospects with personalized engagement strategies. - Provide strategic input and oversight into the design, planning and execution of a structured

Planned Giving program, that focuses on bequests. - Identify and evaluate new revenue opportunities to take advantage of emerging technologies

with the potential to drive revenue growth, increase efficiency, and re-engage donors.

Donor Relations & Stewardship - Establish overall recognition and stewardship strategies to ensure donors at all levels are

properly and equitably acknowledged for their current and future gifts. - Develop and deliver regular, effective donor communications that demonstrate impact, ensure

appropriate recognition, and inspire giving. - Plan and oversee donor recognition activities, appreciation events, and regular donor

communications. - Develop and implement customized stewardship plans for Major Gift donors, that align with the

organization’s mission and demonstrate impact. - Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to highlight donor stories and contributions

through newsletters, social media, and annual reports. - Analyze donor giving patterns and use data insights to enhance stewardship efforts and improve

donor retention. - Foster long-term relationships with donors by identifying opportunities for engagement, such as

volunteer roles, advisory positions, or legacy giving.

Grant & Proposal Management - Collaborate with senior leadership team and scientists to understand funding needs and align

with donor interests. - Establish a grant reporting system that tracks deadlines and impact report submissions. - Prepare compelling non-profit grant proposals, donor appeals, stewardship materials, and

impact reports. - Identify and research prospective funders and donors

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:

- 7–10 years of experience in fundraising, grant writing, and donor relations in the non-profit sector.

- Proven success securing donations from individuals, foundations, and corporations, including major gifts.

- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proposal writing and public speaking. - Natural relationship manager with excellent interpersonal skills. - Highly organized, collaborative, and able to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines. - Proficiency with fundraising databases (Raisers Edge, Donor Perfect) - Entrepreneurial and resourceful with strong financial administrative and organizational skills. - Experience developing and managing budgets - Post-secondary education is essential, and a specialization in Fundraising, Non-profit

Management, or a related field, is an asset. - Knowledge of health research funding at the provincial and federal level is preferred - Experience working in a research environment (preferably in health care) is an asset.

REPORTS TO:

- Executive Director COMPENSATION: The hiring range is $120,000 and $140,000 (depending on experience), including competitive benefits

and vacation package.
